The content marketing stats every business needs to know

Not convinced that content marketing is important for your business? The numbers say otherwise

Content marketing has changed the way running a business works. Taking your company online gives you the potential for your largest audience ever, and social media allows you to interact with your clients en masse in a way that simply wasn’t possible before.

However, content marketing can also take time to get right. This leads some entrepreneurs to believe that it’s not worth the effort to boost their company’s online presence. So we’re here to tell you just how important content marketing is to your business. That’s right, we even brought the numbers to prove it.

B2B

If your business clients consist of other businesses, content marketing can be a great way to improve relations and make yourself known. More and more B2B marketers are using content marketing effectively, as the numbers tell us.

63% of B2B marketers are extremely or very committed to their content marketing and 70% of businesses are aiming to create more content this year than they did last year. Overall, 89% of B2B businesses are using content marketing. Of these, 73% say that their content marketing strategy includes plans to operate content marketing as an ongoing business process rather than as a campaign. This means that if you’re not using it, your business is at risk of falling behind.

Companies using content marketing are also seeing a marked improvement in the effectiveness of their strategy, even over the last twelve months. 70% of those with a content marketing strategy say it’s either more effective or much more effective than it was one year ago. This shows us how content marketing is getting more important (and more rewarding!) as it evolves.

B2C

For businesses that deal directly with customers, content marketing gets your business out there and allows you to correspond with your clients. B2C content marketing is proving just as necessary as B2B, as shown by the stats.

In fact, compared to B2B marketers, B2C marketers are even more dedicated to their content marketing strategy. A quarter of B2C businesses are extremely or very successful with their overall approach to content marketing, and 63% would describe themselves as more or much more successful with their content marketing than they were a year ago, with 70% describing it as more or much more effective.

40% of B2C marketers have a documented content marketing strategy, and 76% plan on making content marketing a staple part of their business plan rather than just a campaign. And if you’re wondering who you should be directing content to, the answer is always your audience. 69% of B2C marketers always or frequently focus on creating content for their audience rather than their brand. 71% always or frequently consider how their content effects the overall experience a person has with their organisation.
